2008-07-28 [Ramirez]: that, and even when you go and look at them, they are back on the list. =P
2008-07-28 [Atayemi]: Yush! xD
2008-07-28 [Calico Tiger]: On that interesting people list, could we get the choice to turn that off or have it select all and clear the list without having to go to each house to clear the list? I can see that it's going to get very long for me very fast as I'm not interested in visiting everyone that's being watched by my friends or that I'm watching (as a guard, I'm watching a lot of people because of rules infractions and not because I find them very interesting or their friends very interesting).
Perhaps right next to "Interesting People:" a "Clear" option (in the same box, just next to it) that will empty the list that time?
2008-07-28 [Delladreing]: Can we not have an option to "hide" the new "Interesting People" (quotation marks serving two purposes here) list in the same way we were able to hide status-whateve
2008-07-28 [Artsieladie]: Ok, I'm a bit confused with your explanation, [Hedda] about the 'interesting people' thing. I see no interesting people listed thus far and I've tried it several times, definitely not anyone I am watching. O..O >..<
2008-07-28 [Delladreing]: Oh dear Gods it just keeps regenerating every time I click on it...I'd like to beg again for the hide option. If I can't see it it wont be there and it wont fuck with my compulsive need to have a clear sidebar.
2008-07-28 [Levoton]: Artsie: They aren't people who you watch, but people who are being watched by people who you watch. Friends' friends. :)
2008-07-28 [Atayemi]: I keep thinking that I have wiki updates and such.. Perhaps move it so it can be on just Mainstreet beneath the pictures of members? That way, if we are interested, we can take the time to actually go onto Mainstreet, and then people might read something they have missed on Mainstreet (such as contests, etc) while they go on it. *shrugs* Just a suggestion. There's just too much blue to the right, and I was just getting used to the wiki updates and comments.
2008-07-28 [Artsieladie]: Oh, dah, me! *knocks on head* Yup, hollow. Thanks! :) But...why would I want to know who my friends are watching? ^ ^
2008-07-28 [Imperator]: I don't like the "interesting people" box... Could there be an option to turn it off or at least make the text the regular green so it doesn't stand out so much?
2008-07-28 [Mortified Penguin]: I agree with [Imperator]. And darn it! I've seen [djxmonster] appear five times so far! He's not interesting! Give it a rest already...
2008-07-28 [Mortified Penguin]: Of course, right after I said that, this appeared...
2008-07-28 [Hedda]: [Calico Tiger]: The list can't be cleared.
[Levoton]: No, it's not selected from the ones you watch are watching. It's selected from people who are watching the same people as you. I'm too tired for a good explanation.
2008-07-28 [Artsieladie]: Hmm...I see. The people coming up under 'interesting people' are watching the same people as I am watching. Interesting... Thanks, Hedda! :)
2008-07-28 [Imperator]: So what if you aren't watching anybody, like me? Does that mean that only people that aren't watching anybody either show up?
2008-07-28 [Hedda]: [Artsieladie]: Yes, that's a simply and good explanation!
[Imperator]: Then you get some random active members.
In case anyone wonders: If you watch everyone, you'll be getting an empty list... Don't go and do that to get rid of the list though, because I'll fix something that do if it's really in the way for some people.
2008-07-28 [Calico Tiger]: I don't hate it. And it may be just that I need to get used to it. It being at the bottom of the list helps with my compulsiveness to get all notifications off of my screen (which I'm behind on, lazy me, hehe)
2008-07-28 [Ramirez]: Now that the colors changed, I almost don't notice it unless I really look.
2008-07-29 [Calico Tiger]: Yeah, I had to actually search for it this time. I like the color change :D
2008-07-29 [moira hawthorne]: question: in 'your notes' why are the wikis no longer alphabetical?
2008-07-29 [Hedda]: [moira hawthorne]: That's fixed now.
2008-07-29 [moira hawthorne]: coool thx
2008-07-29 [Ramirez]: I like the new set-up with the button for interesting people. =P Much more condensed and unnoticeable unless you want to find it.
2008-07-29 [Calico Tiger]: Agreed :D
2008-07-31 [Ramirez]: I just got a notification that said a friend just made a new Diary entry, and I clicked on it, and it said her last diary entry was the 28th, and I asked her if she wrote anything since then and she said she hasn't. I think this is the 2nd time this has happened, but I just dismissed it the first time. O.o
2008-07-31 [Hedda]: [Ramirez]: I can't find any problem in the code. Maybe you just had an old page from before reading the entry open.
2008-07-31 [Ramirez]: Hmm.. okay. Thanks. ^^
2008-08-02 [Hedda]: Does the new Mainstreet slot system work? I just keep finding more problems all the time.
2008-08-02 [Artsieladie]: I love the new Daily Poem and wiki notices. So many don't go to Mainstreet, eh-um, I don't know why. I do very often b/c it displays so much important stuff about Elftown. :)
The notifications for news, messages and guestbook messages are now gone if you don't have any. Actually... The messages notifications are gone in any case... I'll fix that!
My messages' notifier is working and where it was. ;) No guestbook space at all though.
Not complaining, just stating. You're doing great! :D
2008-08-02 [Artsieladie]: If you are referring to the DP notice and the wiki notice ("Something Interesting"), then the answer is yes, for me it is anyway. ;)
2008-08-03 [Sauron]: 4711 bugs, wow...
2008-08-03 [Ramirez]: Is it just me or is the messages box on the right hand side gone? Maybe I'm just tired and delusional.
I'm an idiot. I just read the updates. Ignore me.
2008-08-03 [All_Most PUNK]: The boxes only appear when you have soemthing to see in there. If you have no messages, no box. If you have no unread forum replies, no box. And like that.
2008-08-03 [Ramirez]: Yeah, I read the updates. Thanks. ^^
2008-08-05 [Cia_mar]: [Hedda] i noticed that in our notes page we have a button that allows us to see what wiki pages we have been invited to....(cool feature, thanks) however, i think that there is a bug,
because i know that when you tested the invite button, the list on the side said i was invited by you...
but in my notes it says i invited myself, not only to your wiki but to the others too that i have recieved,
2008-08-04 22:56:48 [Cia_mar] Bob's Diner
2008-08-02 05:59:29 [Cia_mar] Art Store Art Lessons
2008-07-25 17:53:04 [Cia_mar] 12and13
and i know that i did not...
can you fix please?????
2008-08-05 [Mortified Penguin]: ...heh... Bob's Diner...
2008-08-05 [Cia_mar]: yea and that was your invite today mortified!!!!
2008-08-05 [Mortified Penguin]: What?! I just noticed my name in the updates...
2008-08-05 [de Morte]: I miss being able to change my mood from any page and not just my house.
Also, is there a way to re-use moods, or is the list of past moods just a list?
2008-08-05 [Yncke]: I love how the daily art now gets an update message too, but its camouflage is a bit too good. Perhaps the update message could be in blue too?
2008-08-05 [Artsieladie]: There are 2 other ways that you can access to change your mood besides in your house. There's a button at the very top of every page next to the 'online' button (to the right of it) that reads, 'Moods', and right next to the text that reads, either, "Online friends" or "No online friends", there's a link that says, "Moods". Either one of these will take you to the (your) 'moods' page, where not only will you find your friends' moods listed, but right there you will see that you can change your mood, too. Be a little adventuresome and click the button that says, "Create a mood with an image". ;) Why can't you just copy the mood text and paste it in the 'new mood' box? Add a mood image, also, if you'd like. This is what I'd do, if I wanted to use one of my older mood entries. ;)
I like the fact that the Daily Poem, the Featured Art, the Featured Member, and the Featured Wiki are now announced in a similar fashion as the news. Many people do not make a point of going to Mainstreet (don't know why, I go there a lot), so this way the featured topics get a little more recognition, I think. :) Hmm...though..
I just lurve the 'preview' feature! At first I didn't think to use it, but I think it's great and I use it almost always now!
PS...Yes, I apparently invited myself to a wiki page I didn't even know existed, similar to what [Cia_mar] mentions in a few comments up. :P
2008-08-05 [nokaredes]: Isn't it a bit redundant to have a "Change & comments" section, when the wikis there are also still listed in the other two wiki-notificat
2008-08-05 [Imperator]: I agree with [nokaredes]. Either no "Change and Comments" section or no repeats in the other boxes.
2008-08-05 [nokaredes]: I vote for no repeats :)
2008-08-05 [Hedda]: [nokaredes]: Well, it only listed things under "Change and Comments" and "Wiki-comments
2008-08-07 [Synirria]: Does anyone know if there will be new stylesheets offered?
2008-08-07 [True, plain and simple]: All of the previous stylesheets will be offered soon, when I have time to update them. Maybe sometime in the next few days.
2008-08-07 [Synirria]: Awesome...sorr
2008-08-07 [Mortified Penguin]: So... are there any rules for wiki inviting yet? Or should I just keep mass inviting people...?
2008-08-07 [Imperator]: XD
2008-08-07 [nokaredes]: I would like a feature where you can block invites from someone without blocking other messages...
2008-08-07 [Mortified Penguin]: Sounds like you need some more invitations!
2008-08-07 [nokaredes]: ...or for Mortimer to be banned again :P
2008-08-07 [Mortified Penguin]: Never! If you ban me... I'll return! More powerful than you can possibly imagine! ...or... just... not be able to log on... one of the two...
Speaking of camels, all these updates are pretty great and handy, but I'm still waiting on that one I keep pestering you about, Hedda. The one about the "200 older comments" actually showing 200 older comments instead of 21...
2008-08-07 [Hedda]: [Mortified Penguin]: It's a pain to test as I have to write over 200 comments on my test-server...
2008-08-07 [Mortified Penguin]: Maybe a nice 50 comment button then?
2008-08-13 [Janouk]: :o We can see now how many wiki's someone has on watch? Interesting...
2008-08-13 [windowframe]: *checks how many wikis you're watching* :O
2008-08-13 [Atayemi]: How do you check that? :o
2008-08-13 [Janouk]: You should check Squeees! :)
Just look at member statistics..
2008-08-13 [windowframe]: *checks Squees* I don't get it. O.o Is it a special number? Am I missing something? <.< *feels stupid*
2008-08-13 [Janouk]: No, sorry. Check [windowframe], then check others. Most are watching about 700 pages.
~edit: OMG, that's you! *slaps forehead* I'm so stupid. My point is: wow, you watch a lot!
2008-08-13 [Atayemi]: Ah. :P
2008-08-13 [windowframe]: XD *L*
2008-08-13 [Janouk]: :o
2008-08-13 [windowframe]: well I ended up with about 200 pages on watch just from making the bio pages for contestants in the RP tournament, and I've not been bothered to go through and un-watch those. :P Guess they all just add up. <.< (Then there are all the secret mega wikis of doom I watch too, of course).
2008-08-13 [Janouk]: Hehe, ah yeah those! :)
I once unwatched half of what I watched, back in 2005 or so. I guess I should do that again. I see all the retiredish people managed to get their wiki's back to 30-60 or so, that should be so awesome. No more blue on the side. Like heaven. ^__^
2008-08-13 [windowframe]: I can't remember the last time that happened. O.o
2008-08-13 [Mortified Penguin]: Only 856 for me... I'm gonna see if I can get a nice even 1,000...
2008-09-13 [Ramirez]: Did I miss something, or is everything in wiki's now bold?
2008-09-13 [Artsieladie]: Great birthdays' announcement feature at the bottom of the column just above 'interesting people'! One teensy question, though.... Why are the comments and text on wiki pages, for examples, in bold?
2008-09-13 [Atayemi]: I don't like it. :S
2008-09-13 [Artsieladie]: Me either, not particularly, because the links don't stand out any longer. :/
2008-09-13 [Atayemi]: *nods* I agree. And it looks strange on the wiki comments. I preferred it when the member names were just in bold. It's too strong to look at. :/
2008-09-13 [Mortified Penguin]: What?! I see no "all bold" wikis...
2008-09-13 [windowframe]: I'm wondering whether it's a bug, since Templar told me he doesn't see the comments in bold.
2008-09-13 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: Oh whoa. It's hard to see between member names and comments. @_@ I like the birthday thing though ^^
2008-09-13 [Hedda]: It was a missing </b> at the new upcoming birthdays list. Fixed now.
2008-09-13 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: For some reason... I sorta thought that... XD
2008-09-13 [Artsieladie]: :) Still like the upcoming birthdays' feature though.
2008-09-14 [Ramirez]: Yes, love the upcoming birthday feature.
2008-09-14 [Linderel]: Hang on a second, upcoming birthday feature? Where? *is blind*
2008-09-14 [Mortified Penguin]: It's not showing up for you, because none of your friends are having a birthday...
2008-09-14 [Linderel]: Aha.
2008-09-14 [Imperator]: Or she doesn't have any friends... Ooooooo! BURN!
2008-09-14 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: Dx! so mean!
2008-09-14 [Teufelsweib]: yes she does :3 *luffles lami*
2008-09-14 [Imperator]: There are so many burn opportunities on Elftown. It's like people are just asking for them! :D
2008-09-14 [Mortified Penguin]: Your mom was asking for it! ...*eats ramen*...
2008-09-14 [Imperator]: Like that one! XD
2008-09-14 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: AH! I can't away from the 'your mom' jokes! Tahts all my husband and friend ever do... "Your mom" this "Your mom" that. @_@
2008-09-14 [Mortified Penguin]: Ha ha! You just said that all your husband and friend do is "your mom"... *eats ramen*...
2008-09-14 [EnigmaXero]: ew..
that's just sick.
I wouldn't do that. DX
2008-09-14 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: OMG. x_x WHY do I end up getting myself in these situations DX
2008-09-19 [Doormat]: Back on track. At least this is better than the new Facebook format :P
2008-09-19 [Imperator]: The new Facebook format is okay but the only problem is that I can't figure out how to edit anything...
2008-09-20 [Zab]: And I'm still uncomfortable with having the wiki page data above both friends and wiki change boxes.. as if that was the most important.. I rather see it wikichanges (because I use those more often), friends (because I like to look at it once in a while) and last wikipage data.. (because only thing interesting there is te edit button or upload art buttons, which I only use in rps..)
2008-09-20 [moira hawthorne]: this puts me in mind of the expression...
'you can please some of the people some of the times
but dont expect to please all the people all the time'
2008-09-20 [Zab]: We should be able to change the order ourself :P
2008-12-07 [Imperator]: I have a suggestion: For the "editable and viewable by whom" drop down menu in wikis, maybe those should be seperated into an "editable by whom" menu and a "viewable by whom" menu. That makes it less jumbled up and confusing, and makes it more customizable.
2008-12-07 [windowframe]: How does it make it more customisable?
2008-12-07 [Hedda]: [Imperator]: You're totally right about that it's confusing! Even I do mistakes pretty often. Fixed now.
[windowframe]: I'll of course not make it possible for someone who can't view the page to edit it, so you're right that it doesn't make it more customizable. All the possible options were listed before too.
2008-12-09 [Artsieladie]: Nice! :D Umm... is it possible to have this option, too: "Only owner can edit, anyone can comment"? On some of my pages I like to allow outside comments, but it doesn't mean I want anyone else to edit the page. ...Or am I missing something? :P
"Latest public wiki-pages:" That's great! :D
2008-12-09 [Hedda]: [Artsieladie]: I'll skip that option, because if you want non-logged in to be able to comment on it, you should really keep a close eye on the wiki-page. I admit that it would be somewhat useful though.
2008-12-09 [Artsieladie]: Hm.. so, I would have to allow "everyone (members) to edit my page, if I want to allow everyone to comment"? Well, I'll have to disable outsider comments then, because, I do keep an eye on all of my pages, but to allow outsiders to comment, I would have to allow anyone to come along and mess up those pages if they wanted to. I've got far too many pages to have to worry about fixing them. I'm glad I didn't set up the wiki page for the logo and book cover art work I'm doing for Dina. I was going to, so she and I could converse back and forth right on the page through comments. I'll figure something else out then. It's ok, though. I'm sure you have your reasons. :)
2008-12-09 [moira hawthorne]: I agree with Artsie... Id like outsider to comment but not to edit my wikis... I really liked ET as a community... somethings should be just for use in ET... exporting everything and makin it so anyone can do any editing is abit to much work for wiki owners
2008-12-09 [Artsieladie]: Wait a minute.. I just happened to think, I should be able to "allow everyone (members) to edit my page, if I want to allow everyone to comment, if I password protect the page"... Correct? If I password protect the page, then the ONLY regular members that should be able to edit the page are those that know the password. Right? I so often forget the password feature limits the 'freely editable' option.
2008-12-09 [Imperator]: How are you doing that highlighting thing?
2008-12-09 [Hedda]: With the HL-tag. It's on the help-page.
2008-12-09 [Artsieladie]: Hmm... I guess someone here doesn't watch all the right pages! hehe ;) If you want to keep up to speed with the latest and all the Pseudo HTML tags, you might want to watch this page: Pseudo HTML. Become a fan! :D
To highlight, think "hl" and then put them like so <hl>(text here)</hl>, so it will then look like this: (text here)
You can also highlight an image:
<hl><img:great.gif></hl> =>
2008-12-10 [Imperator]: I do watch that page but when changes are made I can't ever find the changes since it's such a big page, lol. But thanks!
2008-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: thats why the 'view diff' button is so handy
2008-12-10 [Artsieladie]: Yes, the 'view diff' is just another feature put there with good reason and purpose. ;) Hmm... maybe make yourself more familiar with the page? This way you'll know what the changes are. ;)
2008-12-11 [Imperator]: Maybe you should quit pointing out the extremely obvious things that I should know but forget about, making me look stupid in the process? XP
2008-12-11 [Teufelsweib]: but if she didn't point them out, you would never remember them :O
2008-12-11 [Imperator]: Now you're doing it too! Argh! XD
2008-12-11 [Artsieladie]: Lighten up, Imperator! :) As [Teufelsweib] said, if they weren't pointed out to you, how would you remember something that you had forgotten? Besides, you really shouldn't be so quick to be defensive, because maybe the next time, when you really do need some more serious help, people won't want to help you then, because they will be concerned that you will think that they think you're stupid. When I help someone, I don't immediately assume they are stupid. In fact it doesn't even enter my mind. But by you pointing this out, you are the one that's making yourself look stupid. I don't like it when people make themselves look stupid nor do I like it when people put themselves down nor do I like it when people brag about themselves. Besides, I wrote my response in a humourous way, because I did add 'winks' ";)" If I thought you were stupid, I'd be more inclined to roll my eyes than to wink. ;)
2008-12-11 [Imperator]: I'm just kidding, man. Dude, I wantcha to know I appreciate your help, 'k? We're good, right, man? :D ;)
2008-12-11 [Artsieladie]: Ok, very well. :) I am always glad to help, because I never forget that there have been times when I have needed help and I'm sure there are times when I will need help in the future.
"jk" helps a lot you know if you are trying to convey that you are 'just kidding'. ;)
You know I have no problem with you. So sure, we're fine as far as I'm concerned. ;) But... it doesn't mean I won't say to you what's on my mind. Sometimes, when friends point out something to a friend, they do it because they do care, even if it may be something that friend may not want to hear. ;)
2008-12-11 [Teufelsweib]: finally, now I know what that "jk" means that people keep on adding at the end of the sentence xD
2008-12-11 [Artsieladie]: hehe I just learned it here not too long ago myself. Before that I wrote it out. There are many netspeak terms/abbrevia
2008-12-11 [Mortified Penguin]: Yes... yes it does make you stupid.
2008-12-11 [moira hawthorne]: I is edumecated
2008-12-11 [Artsieladie]: Thanks very much for your 2 cents there Mort, even though I didn't ask for it. That's very sweet of you! *hugs*
2008-12-11 [Imperator]: Wait! Don't harm him! He's just jk-ing! :D jk XD
2008-12-11 [Artsieladie]: I know, but I like to have a little fun, too. ;) Oh, was I harming him? Ooh, bad me! ;) Are you hurt, Mort? *chuckles mischievously*
2008-12-12 [Imperator]: Gaa! Slow-acting poison! *scuttles away*
2008-12-12 [Artsieladie]: So it's working then? Hmm... *makes note: this formula works!* hehe
2008-12-14 [Mortified Penguin]: My leg! She's hurting my leg! ...no, wait... it's just a nail... never mind... *eats ramen*...
2008-12-14 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: You know what I think...? I think we should be able to save drafts for our private messages. Sometimes I get some huge pm's and I work on them a little at a time, keeping them saved in a notepad. I mean, not that I can't still do that, I just thought it would be neat.
2008-12-14 [Hedda]: That has been on the TODO-list for quite awhile now...
2008-12-14 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: Ooooh YAAAAAAAAAAAY! ^-^'!
2008-12-15 [Hedda]: About making wiki-pages editable by only you and still make it possible for non-elftowners to comment on them:
You can set an edit-password on the pages! That works quite well. I'm doing it right now, but I didn't think about it when we had this discussion.
2008-12-15 [Artsieladie]: Yes, it does! If I had given it a little more thought, I wouldn't have had to bother you with the question in the first place.
I'm really liking the 'index-pages' feature, though, now that I'm learning how it works. It's too bad we couldn't use it more widely among the official pages somehow? Because ...so often a needed link is not on a page (for easy navigation) and you have to take a scenic route to get to where you're heading and often the keywords are not filled in, either. But you can't link pages if you aren't the owner, which I also understood the reasoning for this as well.
Now, if more Elftowners would familiarise themselves better with Mainstreet, they might see "Latest public wiki-pages:" at the bottom of the central column.
Thank you, [Hedda] for all these things you spend time on to make ET an even better place.
2008-12-15 [Hedda]: Priv < 90 can add any page to an index-page.
2008-12-15 [Artsieladie]: It can? O..O Oh, I haven't tried it since the first time I tried. That's great!
2008-12-27 [Imperator]: I agree, the pop-up search box is irritating. Maybe the text could just go into the regular google search box in the right-hand column?
2008-12-28 [moira hawthorne]: hummmmm I find the pop up box irritating aswell since I edit my own wikis alot... and having it pop up for every edit is a bit much... limiting it to a regular button we could choose to press on the side banner would be much better...
also... the mini window that pops up when you are trying to copy and paste abit of text is bothersome...
2008-12-28 [Hedda]: It doesn't come up when marking edits in Firefox. I've fixed for the upcoming version so it doesn't do it in IE either.
2008-12-28 [moira hawthorne]: I have Firefox... ands Im getting them still
2008-12-28 [Hedda]: When do you get the popup? With Firefox it doesn't come up when you highlight text in the textareas or input-text fields. At least not on any computer I can find.
2008-12-28 [moira hawthorne]: when I make an edit to a wiki page or hight text to copy so I can paste somewhere else
2008-12-28 [Hedda]: So you get it when you copy normal text, not the textarea or input text.
The popup will not appear when there is a big textarea on the page after the next server-restart though.
2008-12-28 [moira hawthorne]: Ill wait for the next server restart... if it is still happening Ill screen shot what it is so you know what I mean... sorry hedda put techy stuff just confuses me!
2008-12-29 [Artsieladie]: [Hedda]...
Priv < 90 can add any page to an index-page.
How about making a page 'into' an index page? I thought it could be useful to use Elftown Christmas Competitions as an index page for all of the rest of the pages that go with this page, like Christmas Art Competition, Christmas Poetry Competition, and so forth. Since links are then 'automagically
2008-12-29 [manwe]:
questions for the coders:
i have noted, of late, that some pages that i am "watching" have reported back as 'user not logged in for X number of days', where 'X' is some number greater than 4 or 5 days.
i generally check my "watched pages" within 2 to 3 days, at the maximum, and, today, i found one that was "recently modified", though the page said the user had not logged on for 39 days. this was only one of 6 (out of some 30-35) pages i "viewed" today. my last "clearing" of the notifications was within 2.5 days.
is this an error? is there some bug? some explanation?
thanks if you can or can't answer this.
(to those who just HAVE to have an opinion or input "noise", with NO relevant information... please... i am interested in ONLY responses from those who KNOW and KNOW what they are talking about. i am trying to debug a similar problem on another program, and i do monitor this page)
thank you...

2008-12-29 [Hedda]: [Artsieladie]: That's correct.
2008-12-29 [manwe]: hmmmmmmmm
that is possible...
however...
thank you for your answer
2008-12-29 [Artsieladie]: This is a quick scribble of what I have in mind:
http://elftown
2008-12-29 [Hedda]: No, you overdo it. When categories are used too much it becomes a mess.
If a contest has its subcontests and submission-pag
Chinese New Year is a just test for this year as far as I know. I'm not even sure if there is a thing like "holiday competitions".
Note: These are my thoughts for the moment. If you take them as a rule, you're wrong.
2008-12-29 [Artsieladie]: The main page (index page - Elftown's Holiday Competitions) would have the sub-main pages of Chinese(?); Valentine; Halloween; Christmas; and possibly Festivals linked to it only. Then say, for the Christmas holiday contest (Elftown Christmas Competitions), the art, photo, and poetry sections would be linked to the 'main' Christmas page only (Elftown Christmas Competitions), not to the main index page (Elftown's Holiday Competitions).
I just included the Chinese, because it's a holiday, as I also mentioned Festivals as a possible link-to-index-
The wiki-page (page name) can't be used because it's owned by someone else. :P
2008-12-30 [Hedda]: As I said: It isn't a good idea make the contest-pages into subpages of the Elftown's Holiday Competitions page, because then you'll get too much links and it really doesn't make any sense to have a next-button from Chinese Newyear to Valentine, for example.
The warning "The wiki-page (page name) can't be used because it's owned by someone else. " can be ignored by crew-members.
2008-12-30 [Artsieladie]: Ok! I wasn't sure if I had made what I was trying to convey clear, tis all. ..and I see.
2009-01-07 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: It's not that the ads bother me at the bottom of pages, it's just that all my ads are over there in the greenery on the left side of the page, and it blotchy and cut off, and... looks bad, lol. Is it supposed to be over there in the shrubbery?
2009-01-08 [Hedda]: No, that's a bug in the Javascript-cod
2009-01-08 [moira hawthorne]: where are the ads now?
2009-01-08 [Hedda]: There are some ads on Mainstreet and on the news pages. And they appear on the exported version of wiki-pages.
2009-01-08 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: Okay thanks. It's all pretty now, and I can read it. I thought I was going to have to trim the shrubs.
2009-01-17 [Hedda]: There are now rate polls. Any suggestions on how to make them more good looking or something else?
2009-01-19 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: What the heck is this? http://elftown
2009-01-19 [Hedda]: [Khronos Atmosphaera]: You must have some sort of AdWare on your computer. Elftown never ever display Deviant Art icons. Try viewing the pages with Opera or Internet Explorer and see if it's different.
It might be Suddenlink Communications (Which is your ISP, I assume) that does something really bad too.
The third option is that your Firefox's image cache isn't working as it should (broken file-system or something). Try emptying that cache (tools->clear private data should work, or Edit->preference->Advanced->Network and clear the cache)
[The_Soulforged]'s ("someone" isn't a word you should use in a bugreport...) badge-slot doesn't look like that at all. It's the donation badge that somehow has been replaced for you: http://elftown
2009-01-19 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: Okay. Thanks. My Firefox is always acting funny anyway. So, I'll do all that, and see what happens. And, Suddenlink isn't the best service, but the next best thing is MEGA expensive.
2009-01-19 [Hedda]: Do you have any plugins in your Firefox, by the way? They are infamous for doing shit like this. And they are definitely AdWare. Check Edit->preferences->Main->Add-ons
and make sure you don't have anything that you don't really need there. I have Google bar and a Stumple bar, and they are OK, but a lot of other things are bad.
2009-01-19 [Artsieladie]: How about the 'Web Developer Bar", [Hedda]? Is that bad, too? I didn't know plug-ins are adware. Man lär sig något nytt varje dag! ;P
2009-01-19 [Hedda]: I have no idea what the Web Developer Bar is, or if it's good or bad, and I'm not going to research that. Plug-ins aren't always adware, but some plug-ins are adware.
2009-01-19 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: I have a few add ons. Hmm... Like Google bar, the weather, amd the gmail notifier... Grr... could be why my Firefox is a POS. It locks up and crashes on me all the time.
2009-01-23 [Artsieladie]: Firefox's Web Developer (2 e.g.):

Is there a reason why you can't highlight a short amount of text on a page (viewing side, 'not' editing side) and right click to copy it anymore? When I try to highlight a link to an Elftown wiki-page, for instance, to copy, then paste it somewhere, it won't stay highlighted to right click on it. Instead that little search box, which I do not want (because I don't want to search what I've selected), pops up. Then I have to re-highlight it in that search box, which seems a bit unnecessary, especially since I'm not looking to search what I've selected in the first place. If I wanted to search what I highlighted, I'd simply paste it into the search box in the right hand column. The only short text I've been able to highlight, right click and copy, are usernames. :P
You have that little search box appear in the lower right hand corner now, though, and this placement of it is much better, less annoying, I think. :)
2009-01-23 [Hedda]: Some bug in my Javascript code. I'll try to fix.
2009-01-23 [Artsieladie]: hehe Yeah, and the page for the messages is all italicised now, too.
Register or Hedda has to put a blinking ad here: Get Cradle of Persia FREE with a 30-day trial to GamePass
Ok, so I went to Firefox. Since I'm not one to buy because I have no time to play them and not interested in most, to set up an account even for a 30 day trial, they want my credit card info and this they are not getting, becase I have no intentions of buying anything from them. But for those that play games all the time, it's probably good for them!
I learned how to get around that little annoying 'not letting me copy' thingie. But you gotta' know just how to do it. :)
2009-01-23 [True, plain and simple]: @[Hedda]: Well, of course you can't call q.focus() and then still expect text to be selected, because the selected text (by the nature of being selected) has focus.
Is there some reason why you call that focus?
2009-01-23 [Hedda]: Yes, I wanted it so that I can select something and then press enter to search for it.
I've removed it (upcoming version).
Now when I think about it, I could just as well catch Enter. That should work.
2009-01-23 [True, plain and simple]: Now when I think about it, I could just as well catch Enter. That should work.
Yep, I thought that's what you wanted, but you beat me to suggesting it..to yourself. :P
2009-01-24 [Hedda]: I have no problem fixing stuff if I know what I want... Eh... OK, not in this case at least. Fixed in the upcoming version (And a nice "(Press enter to search)" text added.)
2009-01-24 [moira hawthorne]: so the copy and paste highlight is gonna work correctly once more?
2009-01-24 [Mortified Penguin]: The only problem I still have with Elftown... is that the darn "200 older comments" button will only show 20 old comments! ...*eats ramen*...
2009-01-24 [Hedda]: I would like the marking to work inside textareas too though.
I think I eventually fixed it now, but it's a pain that Firefox doesn't work like IE and I had some problems with using onkeyup instead of onkeydown.
But now I have a working thing on my testserver where one can type something, highlight it and press enter to Google it. Don't dare to update Elftown today though.
2009-01-24 [Hedda]: [Mortified Penguin]: It's hopefully fixed in the upcoming version that I don't want to upload to Elftown today. I don't have more than 200 comments on my testserver (And I'm too lazy to add some today) so it's a little hard to test until I've updated Elftown.
2009-01-24 [Hedda]: Hrmf, of course it didn't work. It goes to some too old comments.
2009-01-24 [Hedda]: Now the comment-links work.
2009-01-24 [Mortified Penguin]: Sweet...
2009-01-24 [Hedda]: By the way: Does the new Google-for-mar
I'm having some tiny problems in the forums now when I'm faster than my computer, but it might have nothing to do with the change, unless it made the browser slower.
2009-01-24 [True, plain and simple]: I'll check.
Is there any reason to have the selected text be replaced with a new line if you select it and press enter (to search) while typing then? It might be more friendly in text areas if we removed that? It's the default expected behaviour, but not very common that it would be bad to prevent in this case, I think.
Edit: It works fine in IE7. In IE6, the function works, but the box is placed wrong, probably because of your CSS or something. I'll look later. Also one of your ads generates bad script for some reason, but I don't know which one (and it's not that important for anyone who doesn't have the script debugger turned on).
2009-01-24 [Hedda]: "Is there any reason to have the selected text be replaced with a new line if you select it and press enter (to search) while typing then? "
What? It doesn't do that, unless I misunderstand you. It returns a "false" so the enter should never replace the text.
2009-01-24 [True, plain and simple]: Well, it does for me in Firefox/IE. I'll look at the code and see if there's a reason why.
2009-01-24 [Hedda]: Different functions are called in the forums and elsewhere though. None of them replaces any selected text with enter if you press it to search though.
getkey(b) == 13 must work the same in Windows, as far as I've seen. And Opera doesn't either replace any selected text.
You have really reloaded stuff correctly? And it's in a textarea, I guess.
2009-01-25 [True, plain and simple]: It's not that relevant, I know what the problem is now. If the browser blocks the popups from the site (in Firefox at least) then submitting the form throws an exception, and since that exception is thrown before false is returned then that line is skipped. You can wrap that line in a try {} to prevent that of course.
IE has a separate issue though, so I'll let you know when I find it out.
Edit: Ahhh! I see what you're doing. The problem is because you didn't know about the difference in event models. In IE, the event is fired on the the element farthest down on the DOM tree first and "bubbles" upwards. In the other browsers that follow the W3C model, it starts at the top of the tree, goes to the element, and goes back up again (so that canceling is a little more intuitive).
Basically, in short, if you want it to work correctly in IE then you'd have to return false on the textfield's onkeydown, instead of the body's (because it's too late then). I'd offer some solution, but the file is really messy, so eh.. :P
2009-01-25 [Hedda]: You mean that e.parentNode.s
I know perfectly well about bubbles, but I thought it would just have worked as that was the case before I added the textarea-code.
I can easily add a function on textareas, I guess. I had one during the development.
2009-01-25 [True, plain and simple]: It works, but because the pop-up isn't actually shown if you haven't allowed them for this domain, it throws an error too to tell the calling code that things didn't work out quite as was supposed to happen. try { e.parentNode.s
Before you added the textarea-code I'm not sure there was ever a case where that particular difference was an issue, but yes. :P
2009-01-25 [Hedda]: I made the change:
try { e.parentNode.s
Is that enough to fix all the problems?
2009-01-25 [True, plain and simple]: It fixes the Firefox problem. Not the IE problem, but that's fixed if you do something on the textareas.
2009-02-12 [Imperator]: In the comments sections where it says "(30 minutes ago)" etc. I suggest that "minutes" gets abbreviated to "min" and "hours" gets abbreviated to "hrs" because it pushes the person's name out pretty far into the middle of the line. Or the person's name should come first and the time and date after it.
2009-02-12 [Hedda]: "hours" is abbreviated "h".
I guess I could remove the date for new comments too as it isn't really needed there.
2009-02-12 [Hedda]: It is. It's written "2h" and so on. "2h 20min 13sec ago" is a common way to write it. Also with m and s. I can't use "m" though as that can be seen as "month" unless I have more numbers.
"2 hrs ago" is actually half as common as "2h ago".
2009-02-17 [Imperator]: Yay! That looks better.
2009-02-17 [Diiwica]: Actually commonly in the us we use hour to abreviate hour. Ev en my blasted phone does it.
